Nothing like being in 70+ degree weather with sandy beaches, fresh
tropical fruit, raw fish, the roar of the ocean and new trails to uplift
the mind, body, and spirit. Today I felt great running. I got a cold last Sunday right before I
traveled to Hawaii, and today it finally feels like it is just about gone. Still coughing a little. But this is seriously the shortest duration cold EVER. James arrived on Oahu yesterday, and today we did the Hau'ula Loop Run, a 6.5 mile route on the North Shore of Oahu. The trails climb on ridges above the town of Hau'ula. It was an easy, relatively fast double lollipop route.
The run went quickly as we chatted about Silverton Colorado, upcoming races, the Avon (that cool hotel that opens only for runners during Hardrock), about our past 100 mile races, and about my upcoming race at HURT where James will crew and pace me the last 20 miles. Nightfall came and we finished just as it was getting too dark to see the treacherously slippery rocks and crash-producing roots on the trail. Dinner was at the Fish Taco restaurant on the North Shore, Surfin' Tacos. It's the best restaurant I have found South of La'ie but North of Kailua.
